SBCISDThe San Benito CISD School Board authorized its officers the authority to negotiate and select an interim attorney during Thursday evening’s special meeting.

In a 6-1 vote, the board approved said action following a special meeting Monday in which a 30-day termination notice was provided to the school district’s current legal counsel, Gus Acevedo. Acevedo’s termination was approved Monday by a 5-2 vote.

Thursday’s motion to seek an interim attorney was made by board member Fatima Huerta and seconded by fellow trustee Julian Huerta. “I move that the board authorize the board officers to negotiate and sign a legal service agreement with an interim district council to provide legal services for the San Benito CISD,” she said.

This is VERY wrong and may even be illegal. Editor you may want to investigate a little bit more on this matter! Why are they only giving the power to three board members in making the decision of what attorney to hire/contract when there are seven board members representing the school district? Only in San Benito! TEA when are you going to step in and do something about these power-hungry, dictator-like board members?? Please help us!!
