NEWS Staff Report
During a special meeting on the evening of Memorial Day, the San Benito CISD Board of Trustees approved providing a 30-day termination notice to Gus Acevedo, the attorney currently representing the district, and took no action on reprimanding Superintendent of Schools Antonio G. Limon.
Board members opted to part ways with Acevedo after a 5-2 vote as Board President Yliana G. Rodriguez and trustees Anna Cruz, Fatima Huerta, Julian Huerta and June Aguilera voted for the termination notice while Oscar Medrano and Hector Leal voted against.
A request for an audit of the school district’s finances was also approved by the same 5-2 vote. The item proposing three policy changes that would have reduced Limon’s powers to hire and fire employees was tabled.
Members of the board then went into closed session to discuss the maintenance department and possibly reprimanding the superintendent, both of which trustees took no action on in open session.
The meeting was held before a packed house as many in attendance reportedly expressed displeasure in some of the proceedings. A full report will come later this evening.

@Lali
Their induction ceremony was considered a special meeting and was promptly uploaded the following day. Go figure.
Have you all seen the Sept 15th Board meeting? For some reason you can not hear Mr. Oscar Medrano’s voice clearly as he addresses concern that the Board President is over stepping her boundaries. You may have to jump ahead but it is clear that she was told that she was wrong by Board President she replaced! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X5O6pRcN_1U
Yesterday, the San Benito school board voted 6-1 in favor of hiring interim district legal counsel. According to the VMS, the action gives school board President Yliana Rodriguez, Vice President Anna Cruz and Secretary June Aguilera permission to seek temporary legal counsel until the school district goes out for bids for a new attorney.
Here is the question: Will someone please explain how three board members can do this? What happened to an agenda item for the full board to vote on? This board needs serious help. When is their training that they talked about going to happen? Not soon enough!!
Will someone PLEASE forward the following information to our board president and the rest of her gang?! I think they forgot to read this…

Still waiting for mondays special meeting to be uploaded onto youtube. Funny how different board groups are given names ( The Coalition, The Donna Coalition, and now El Barrio Board). Only in San Benito!!
GoSpursGo,
They probably won’t upload the special meeting since special meetings aren’t televised. Hmmm…could be why they couldn’t wait for the regular scheduled board meeting. So the citizens of San Benito wouldn’t be made aware of their careless decision making.
What was amazing to observe at Monday’s school board meeting was the behavior of the board members beginning with the board president. As the two principals gave their excellent presentations, the only three who were actively listening were Ms. Huerta, Mr. Leal, and Mr. Medrano. Those two “educators” on the board could not figure out correctly how to be active listeners. Let us remember that the principals have great programs on their campuses because of the curriculum leadership of Mrs. Sanchez. It just didn’t happen over night. I hope all principals hold the new board members accountable as Mrs. Cruz referenced the principals holding the administration accountable. The principals report to the superintendent and not to you “I Want” board member.
I sure hope the “the Team of 5” go to a training soon. Oh, I forgot, they have training in San Antonio in June. Bet they will all be there as they didn’t even go to the free training at SPI two weeks ago. Talk about spending our tax dollars. Shameful!!
Ok we are here at today’s Huge Game and it appears with all the fans turning out to see there favorite teams and so much rideing on todays game there are certaniy going to be alot of try outs for nexts election seats! What do you think Sparky? Makes you just want do throw your name in theh hat does’nt it?
Que Viva El Barrio Board
YOU CAN TAKE THE PERSON OUT-OF-THE GHETTO, BUT YOU CAN’T TAKE THE GHETTO OUT OF SOME PEOPLE. OBVIOUSLY WE KNOW WERE THESE PEOPLE MENTALLY STILL LIVE. PLEASE SOMEONE TELL THEM THEIR BAD BEHAVIOR MAKES THEM LOOK ILLITERATE(LACK OF KNOWLEDGE). PLEASE MR. AGUILERA, FOR A BUSINESS MAN, YOUR PERFORMANCE AT MONDAY’S SCHOOL BOARD MEETING WAS SOOOO UNPROFESSIONAL. YOUR BEHAVIOR HAS TO EMBARRASS YOUR DAUGHTER. IF YOUR WERE MY FATHER I WOULD BE. IF YOU DON’T GIVE A CR_ _ ABOUT YOURSELF, THINK OF HER.
How can people learn good manners? It is very rude to be making comments from the audience when a meeting is being conducted. It is very low class to make comments to try and drown out a person’s voice just because you don’t agree with him, like the crowd was doing with Oscar Medrano, and the same people had already done this a few months ago with Bob T. Each time, the president just sat there and smiled and sometimes laughed at what the audience members were doing instead of bringing the room to order. That’s part of her job, and she’s not doing it. How can teachers and other educated people support this behavior? When will we ever learn?
You are right, Resaca Babe. They’ve got no manners and no class. And Chad, is correct in pointing out the ghetto feel of this board. Ghetto about sums it up when they allow such behavior during a meeting instead of bringing the room to order. This president obviously did not learn a thing about what being president means. Maybe she needs to take a look at some of the old meetings where Mr. Medrano eloquently moderated. I guess you get what you pay for… & we got a group of low class, uneducated people looking out for their own personal agendas rather than for our students.
Someone please tell the two “educators” on the school board that the words “Recognized and Exemplary” are not in use this year by TEA. Come on ladies, you should know better!
not a good call by the president in calling a meeting on Memorial Day in my opinion. It should be a day of remembrance of all our fallen heroes.
What’s the problem? Wasn’t it a regular work day for all school employees and a regular school day for all students?
So what was all the hoopla about? Did the new board members get cold feet? Tanto wato on having a special meeting on Memorial Day for nothing! No respect!!!
