So far, so good.
At least that’s the sentiment of officers with the San Benito Police Department (SBPD) about the effectiveness of Operation Blackout, an initiative created last month in hopes of curbing an influx of burglaries in the city.
According to SBPD Operations Chief Martin Morales, there were two nights prior to the operation going into effect in which 20 burglaries were reported. Since April 27, the date in which Operation Blackout was launched, eight have been reported in two weeks time.
Assistant Chief of Operations Michael Galvan said he attributes this to the department’s increased presence, thanks in large part to officers utilizing marked and unmarked units during select days and conducting traffic stops and K-9 searches should probable cause exist.
