A small grass fire reported Sunday, Nov. 27 that consumed at least an acre of land in San Benito was the result of a local fisherman who left embers burning from an open fire, read a San Benito Fire Department report.
According to said report, San Benito firefighters were called to the fire at approximately 5:05 a.m. on 2900 FM 345, near Sam Houston Boulevard and San Jose Ranch Road.
Authorities believe the fire was caused by a citizen who was fishing along the resaca and started an open fire to stay warm. Afterwards, the person left embers behind which the wind picked up and fanned a fire, the report read.
Local residents called firefighters to fight the blaze.
No loss of property or injuries was reported.
