Special to the NEWS
Twenty years ago, Chelo Gonzalez saw San Benito going through a time of hardship and decided it was time to do something about it.
Wife of the late Mayor Cesar Gonzalez, Chelo, 80, was one of three who founded the San Benito Food Pantry to help those families she often saw in need of help. The Food Pantry relied then as it continues to now on donations in its efforts feeding the hundreds of families who stand in line for a free meal every Wednesday morning.
