San Benito Greyhound fans are in for a treat.

At least that’s according to Celia Longoria, Director of Communications and Marketing for San Benito CISD.

Longoria announced the district’s plans on Tuesday to honor the 1961 San Benito Greyhounds football team, considered by many the greatest of all to don the purple and gold, at Bobby Morrow Stadium during Friday night’s game against the Los Fresnos Falcons.

Such plans include an abbreviated video package compiled by Longoria, Isabel Gomez, David Cortez and the rest of the staff at KSBG Channel 17 consisting of film from that year as well as candid interviews with several members of the team. A comprehensive video will be shown on Channel 17 later this year.

But first, a little history is in order.
