The community has put its support behind a firefighter and his cancer-stricken wife in the form of fundraising efforts.
Members of the San Benito Fire Department, along with the Iglesia Emmanuel Church in San Benito and the San Benito Funeral Home, organized a chicken plate sale to help fellow firefighter Rene Gonzalez, 33, and his wife Lorissa Gonzalez, 32, incur the costs of cancer treatment and travel to MD Anderson in Houston.
