LJ GarciaHARLINGEN – Preparing for the district games might be the main goal for the San Benito Greyhounds, but this Friday, fans, supporters, parents, and football players have one goal in mind, to win the annual Battle of the Arroyo.

With both the Cardinals and Greyhounds having the fresh memory of their significant victories this past weekend, the Battle trophy is up in the air, and the ’Hounds plan on surprising the confident Cards at Boggus Stadium on Friday.

The ’Hounds are ready to bring the heat they utilized last week at Bobby Lackey Stadium, where San Benito defeated the Weslaco East Wildcats 28-16, to Cardinal territory. On the other side of the spectrum, the Harlingen Cardinals – ranked number one according to other Valley newspapers – demoralized the Corpus Christi Carroll Tigers by an astounding 72-0 score on Saturday.

Alex Cisneros At practice, the ’Hounds will focus on hustling during the second half, where progress can be notably made after last week’s game. “We got some things we have to fix from that second half. We should have done a bunch of different stuff. We didn’t get it done that second half, so we got some things to work on,” Head Coach Spencer Gantt said in reference to the team’s performance against the Wildcats.

As the ’Hounds prepare for the Battle of the Arroyo, the team hopes to make progress from their mistakes to play a better game against the perceivably unstoppable Harlingen Cardinals.

Brian Blake“We are going to keep doing what we do, and keep working at getting better at what we do. We are not going to change anything up; we are not going to do anything different. We are just going to try to work harder,” Gantt said.

Though they’re the underdogs, the ’Hounds plan on bringing their A-game to earn a win against the Cardinals in preparation for their district opener in two weeks. “We got to play a good four quarters against Harlingen. They’re a good football team,” Gantt continued.

Let’s all go to Boggus Stadium on Friday and BRING THE TROPHY HOME! ..Never say Never! Teamwork is the key to victory….Remember: ONCE A GREYHOUND, ALWAYS A GREYHOUND!!!!

GOOD TRY SAN BENE. YAL HAVE LOTS OF PRIDE, AND FOR THAT I GIVE CREDIT. BUT FACE IT THIS IS NOT A RIVALRY OR BATTLE ANYMORE. WE HYPE IT UP TO BE DUE TO THE FACT THAT WE LIVE NEXT TO EACH OTHER. OUR PROGRAM IS JUST ON ANOTHER LEVEL! GOOD LUCK ON YOUR SEASON THOUGH, MAYBE WE’LL SEE EACH OTHER AGAIN IN THE PLAYOFFS?
