ELSA – After a huge first win under its belt, the Rio Hondo Bobcats will face another big challenge this week as they travel to Edcouch-Elsa to take on the rejuvenated Yellow Jackets in a non-district game.

The Bobcats will look to keep momentum going after blowing away Robstown last week, 56-6, and to focus on their defensive unit repeating their superb performance from Friday’s game.

The Bobcat defense allowed only a single touchdown, which occurred late in the game, and forced numerous turnovers that gave the offense more opportunities to score throughout the contest.

And score they did.

The offense was then able to capitalize on turnovers and score a total of eight touchdowns by the end of the game, more than half being thrown thru the air behind the arm of quarterback Juan Puga. On the ground, it was running back R.J. Vega who was able to score a couple of touchdowns for the ’Cats.

Puga and Vega, along with the rest of the Rio Hondo offense, will be taking on a better Jacket defense Friday, hoping to show the same results they have been showing so far this season.

Head Coach Rocky James has been putting the Bobcats through tough practices, preparing them for Edcouch, who also won their first game against Port Isabel in convincing fashion – specifically with a 48-0 tally.

“We will come out ready,” said James. “Practices have been going great so far and we need to keep that up.”

The Yellow Jackets will also be looking to stay undefeated in non-district play as they play host to the Bobcats. Kick-off is at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 2.
