A meeting is scheduled Monday between members of the San Benito Youth Baseball/Softball (SBYBSL) League and City of San Benito officials, this after SBYBSL President Frank Garza was irked Friday afternoon when he and other league members arrived at Stookey Park to find the facilities closed.
Garza was notified late Friday afternoon by a parent that a sign read “closed for repairs” and a padlock had been placed at the entrance gates. Garza said that he had not been given notice of the lockout from the City of San Benito or Parks or Recreation Director Alisha Milligan.
Garza said Milligan had informed him that the league was in violation of their sanction because the tournament scheduled this weekend, in which Garza and other league members were going to prepare for Friday, was not organized by the Pony association. However, Garza said that all teams scheduled to play in the tournament are Pony affiliated.
Attempts by the News to contact Milligan were unsuccessful.
