Oscar Medrano, San Benito CISD School Board Trustee, Place 6 has submitted the following statement to the San Benito News in response to delinquent county taxes he reportedly owed.
“As a life-long citizen and public servant of the great city of San Benito, I have always maintained the highest standards of ethics in my role as a school board member. Recently, it was reported by the media that I was delinquent on my property taxes. The property in question is a starter home that I bought for my ailing mother and my down-syndrome sister both for which I provide and care for daily. As of today, all school taxes and property taxes have been paid on the property in question. Rather than spending time addressing this non-issue we should be discussing the issues that affect our school children such as budget cuts, better resources for teachers, better schools for our children, and advocating for public education. I strongly believe that my proven experience and dedication, as demonstrated during my tenure on the school board, is essential when dealing with all the challenges facing our school district. With your support, I pledge to continue providing the necessary leadership that will give our students the best chance of becoming lifelong learners who will excel in life.”

What a disappointment!! Mr. Medrano, you’ve clearly set a sorry example to the public in San Benito. As a Trustee and board President you are expected to have everything in order and be an example to everyone. Mr. Medrano insists that he practices ethics. How so?
Firstly, ‘ethics’ is defined as having moral principles that govern a person’s behavior and the moral correctness of specified conduct. Mr. Medrano you do NOT possess this quality since you’ve been delinquent consistently on your taxes.
Secondly, when selling/buying a house, everything MUST be current…including school and county taxes. Obviously, this is another one of your lies where you simply look to justify your BIG mistakes.
Thirdly, how dare you use your ‘ailing’ mother and ‘down-syndrome’ sister as a crutch to gain voter sympathy.
And lastly, how could Mr. Medrano be a provider when he clearly states he’s a volunteer coordinator at a hospital.
I don’t know but there just seem to be too many inconsistencies in his responses that I JUST DON’T TRUST YOU.
Without a doubt, Ms. Huerta has MY VOTE!
