David Joshua de la Garza loves to ride the Orbiter at the carnival. He loves it so much, in fact, that he is known to get on the ride in excess of 50 or more times in one visit.
David is also autistic.
He was diagnosed with autism at the age of seven. He became one of an estimated 500,000 individuals under the age of 21 with autism.
“When David was younger, I was in a denial stage,” said David’s mother, Maria Castillo. “I treated my son the same as I did with my other two children as he was growing up. I did not know about autism back then because it was not mentioned.”
David is now 22-years-old and ready to graduate. He has attended the Special Olympics since he was in fourth grade as well as the summer Autism Camp in San Benito.
