At the age of six, most kids are worried about being able to run faster than their younger siblings. Felix Castillo was worrying about running one of the fastest growing companies in Chicago. Using a recipe that his Grandma, San Benito native Antonlia Avila Balboa, created, Castillo and his family have established “Felix’s Famous Cookies” as one of the most successful independent cookie companies in the nation.
It all got started when Castillo’s school had a craft fair back in 2011. The now 10-year-old Castillo was encouraged to bring something to try to sell at school. “A little before the craft fair, my mom had come to help us with our move from the Valley to Chicago,” said Castillo’s mother, Laura Castillo. “Two weeks after she went back home, she had a brain aneurysm and passed away… then I stumbled onto her old cookie recipe.”
