When Dr. Marc A. Puig took over as the new Superintendent for San Benito CISD back in January, he knew that he had a lot of work to do to fix some of the problems the District was facing. However, it wasn’t until Dr. Puig actually saw the financials for himself that he realized just how dire the situation really was. “I think we were all stunned,” said Dr. Puig. “I don’t think I could have anticipated the magnitude of the financial catastrophe we were facing.”
Coming from a smaller district that was also facing a financial disaster, Dr. Puig says he was able to use an identical strategy to alleviate SBCISD’s deficit. “This is not my first rodeo,” Dr. Puig said. “The moves were the same from my last district… the only thing is this is on a larger scale, there’s a lot more moving parts,” he added.
