The San Benito Lady ’Hounds have had an incredible season so far and have had constant attention from the Valley, but they are now being recognized by the state.
After having an overall record of 21-2 and being 7-0 in district, the Lady ’Hounds have been recognized by the Texas Girls Coaches Association, ranking them 17th among 5A softball teams in Texas.
An accomplishment that is not at all surprising for this superb team led by Head Coach Elias Martinez and coaches Lamar Lewis and Gilbert Rodriguez. Standout players include Amanda Garza, Adriana “Squirt” Flores, KC Sanchez, Yesenia Penablanca, Dorothy Milan, and freshman ace Amber Jasso. Kassandra Contreras has also had major contributions but has been sidelined after suffering a knee injury against Porter in late March. Sophomore Jackie Elizondo has done a great job filling in for Contreras as she recovers.
