According to officials with the San Benito Police Department (SBPD), on Monday, February 9, members of the SBPD Patrol Division responded to the Dollar Tree at 850 W. Highway 77 regarding an alleged robbery.
It was reported that two male individuals had approached a female who was in her vehicle near the store and demanded that she get out, in an alleged attempt to steal the vehicle.
When these demands were not met, it was reported that the subjects allegedly used physical force, punching the victim several times in the face and abdomen.
Before police arrived, the subjects fled on foot to avoid apprehension.
Based on witness identification and descriptions, patrol division officers quickly apprehended Omar Castillo at a nearby business and Carlos Mejorado in a nearby neighborhood.
Both subjects were arrested and charged with robbery (a 2nd-Degree Felony) and Public Intoxication.
They were arraigned earlier this week, and each was set a $350,000 bond for the robbery charges.
All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
