LOS FRESNOS, TX—The San Benito Greyhound Soccer Team evened its District 32-6A record with a loss to the Falcons last week.
The ‘Hounds’ district opener win at Bobby Morrow Stadium against the Brownsville Hanna Eagles by a 7-3 score on Feb. 4 proved they can be a formidable opponent if they can stay consistent.
Their follow-up 4-1 loss to the Falcons left a bad taste, however, San Benito Head Coach William Huerta said.
“I feel we could have played a better second half. Los Fresnos played a better second half than we did, and they were able to get the win,” Huerta said. “I am not disappointed, I feel we can compete the rest of the way. This is a learning experience for us and we see this as an opportunity to grow as a team and move forward on to the next team(s).”
Those teams are Brownsville Veterans Memorial (2-1) at home Friday, and next Tuesday at Harlingen (1-1). Both matches begin at 7:30 p.m.
Against Hanna, San Benito scorers were junior Jiovanni Najera and senior Modesto Cortinas with 2 goals each, and senior Francisco Garcia, junior Antwoan Alegria, and senior Angel Hernandez, each with a goal.
Against Los Fresnos, San Benito sophomore Francisco Barrientos scored the lone goal.
