The Greyhound wrestlers became known as the “Mat Dogs,” dominating the Rio Grande Valley, and competing against the only other high school wrestling program at the time, the PSJA Bears. The two schools were pilot programs for wrestling in the Rio Grande Valley. San Benito was consecutive district champs the first eight years in a row. Thirty-three years later, the two squads still gather to duke it out on the mat. Pictured below are current booster club president Jose Montemayor, his freshman son, Jon Joseph Montemayor, Skye Montemayor, and Lyanne Garcia.
