Deputies called to migrant center

LOS FRESNOS, TX—Cameron County Sheriff’s Deputies were called to an immigrant housing facility last week, leading to the arrest of a male subject on an assault charge.

According to the Cameron County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO), on Friday, Sept. 20, 2024, at about 6:30 p.m., Cameron County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to Compass Connection Shelter located at 33918 Stanford Rd., just outside Los Fresnos, regarding an alleged assault.

Upon arrival, reads a CCSO report, sheriff’s deputies contacted the reported victim who was an employee of the immigrant housing shelter.

The employee reported that 17-year-old Elieser Cruz Cordoba locked himself in the bathroom for several minutes causing shelter employees to become concerned that he may be self-harming. The reported victim said that when staff opened the door to the restroom, Cruz Cordoba rushed out, and grabbed the victim around the neck area and in a headlock.

The victim reported staff members pulled Cruz Cordoba from the victim and he locked himself in the bathroom once again. According to the sheriff’s office report, deputies observed redness and swelling around the victim’s neck. Sheriff’s deputies entered the restroom and took Cruz Cordoba into custody.

Sheriff’s deputies arrested Cruz Cordoba and transported him to the Cameron County Carrizales Rucker Detention Center in Olmito pending arraignment. Cruz Cordoba is charged with Assault Causing Bodily Injury, TPC 22.01: a Class “A” Misdemeanor. All suspects are guilty until proven innocent in a court of law.
