Brenda Nettles Riojas finds inspiration everywhere she goes, in everything she sees and everyone she meets.
Many say Riojas transcends her thoughts by expressing them through her poetry, or write vicariously through another person’s eyes. That is the way of a poet.
Born and raised in Brownsville, Riojas graduated from Hanna High School in 1984 and received her Bachelor’s degree in Communication (Journalism) in 1987 from Texas A&I (now Texas A&M) in Kingsville and now serves as the Diocesan Relations Director for the Catholic Diocese of Brownsville.
“I deal with the media, and I’m also the editor for the Valley Catholic, that’s my full-time position. It’ll be 13-years (that I’ve been working there) in April. I love it,” Riojas said.
But it’s her poetry that also gives Riojas, now an author, a sense of purpose.
