Cameron County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested a San Benito woman accused of allegedly assaulting her disabled nephew.
According to officials with the Cameron County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO), on August 11, 2024, at about 7:57 p.m., sheriff’s deputies responded to the 3200 block of County Road 819, in the San Benito area about an assault on a disabled individual.
Upon arriving, deputies spoke to the 20-year-old disabled individual who said that his aunt, Ashley Lillyan Cuevas, had allegedly struck him on his face several times, with both hands, causing him bleeding injuries and scratch marks on his mouth and face.
The victim told investigators that Cuevas had allegedly also grabbed him in a headlock, impeding his normal breathing. Sheriff’s deputies corroborated the male’s account by observing injuries on the reported victim which were consistent with his account of the events. According to the CCSO, sheriff’s deputies were also able to obtain a statement from a witness who was present during the alleged assault.
Based on the aforementioned statements collected by the deputies, as well as their observations at the scene, they proceeded to place Cuevas under arrest for allegedly assaulting/injuring her disabled nephew.
Cuevas was transported to Cameron County Carrizales Rucker Detention Center in Olmito for incarceration and arraignment on said charges. Suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
