Altercation leads to arrest

RIO HONDO, TX—A local woman was recently arrested here accused of an alleged assault.

According to the Cameron County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO), on Sunday, April 14, 2024, at around 4:30 a.m., Cameron County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to a residence in Rio Hondo regarding a family disturbance.

Upon arrival, sheriff’s deputies made contact with a 28-year-old female, identified as Yamilex Morales Garcia, who had sustained a cut on her hand, according to deputies. Morales Garcia soon informed sheriff’s deputies that she sustained the injury during an argument with her boyfriend and his parents.

Sheriff’s deputies then made contact with a 59-year-old male and a 60-year-old female subject. The victims said that Morales Garcia was arguing with their son, which awoke them. The subjects then told deputies that they removed their son from the bedroom in an effort to calm both parties and quash the argument.

The subjects then told deputies that Morales Garcia allegedly grabbed a kitchen knife and began swinging towards them, causing them to be in fear for their safety. The male subject reported that he managed to take the kitchen knife from Morales Garcia.

The male subject also produced the kitchen knife used in the alleged assault, which sheriff’s deputies collected as evidence.

Deputies subsequently arrested Morales Garcia and transported her to the Cameron County Carrizales Rucker Detention Center in Olmito pending arraignment. Morales Garcia is charged with Aggravated Assault, Family Violence with Weapon, TPC: 22.02, a First Degree Felony (two counts).
