Tip leads to arrest

A Crime Stoppers’ tip led to an arrest in the Resaca City last week.

According to the Cameron County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO), on Friday, March 22, 2024, the Cameron County Sheriff’s Office Special Investigations Unit, assisted by the Cameron County District Attorney’s Office and Homeland Security Investigations, executed two narcotics search warrants in Cameron County.

According to Cameron County Sheriff Eric Garza, the search warrants stemmed from an investigation of an anonymous Cameron County Crime Stoppers’ tip alleging illegal narcotics sales from a residence in San Benito.

As a result of the investigation, SIU Investigators were able to secure a search warrant for the residence in San Benito along with a search warrant for another residence in Harlingen. During the execution of the search warrant in San Benito, Manuel “Manny” Cuellar was encountered on the property and was allegedly found in possession of 47 grams of cocaine packaged in several individual baggies, indicative of narcotics distribution, noted a CCSO report.

Cuellar was said to also be in possession of U.S. currency and jewelry which were seized as suspected illicit proceeds from drug sales. Cuellar was arrested for Manufacture/Delivery of Substances in Penalty Group One.

Moments after the first search warrant was executed, a second team of SIU Investigators, assisted by the Cameron County District Attorney’s Office and Homeland Security Investigations, executed a search warrant in Harlingen, where investigators allegedly located and recovered 1.3 ounces of high grade marijuana individually packaged and one THC vape cartridge.

During the execution of the search warrant in Harlingen, no subjects were encountered on the property and the marijuana and THC were seized pending further investigation.
