PALM VALLEY, TX —State Senator Morgan LaMantia (D–Palm Valley) recently announced her candidacy for re-election for Texas Senator, District 27.

Following a first term marked by legislative achievements, Senator LaMantia expressed her readiness to continue serving the people and communities of SD 27.

According to a reelection announcement published by LaMantia’s office, during her first campaign, she engaged with constituents, listened to their stories, and aimed to advocate for their needs. Drawing on these experiences, Senator LaMantia shaped her approach to representation during the 88th Legislative Session.

She highlighted the progress made and acknowledged that there is still work to be done for long-term, comprehensive solutions, reads the statement from her office.

Senator LaMantia emphasized the importance of hard work, collaboration, and bipartisanship in achieving legislative goals. During the session, she passed 31 bills into law and coauthored 99, including securing over $36 million in state funding for local investment in Senate District 27.

Some notable achievements include initiatives to improve public education, promote career readiness, increase access to healthcare, preserve rural communities, address water system needs, secure the border, and expand infrastructure.

Looking ahead, Senator LaMantia expressed her commitment to building on these accomplishments and continuing to advocate for the needs of her constituents.

Born and raised along the border, she shared a deep connection with the region, its people, and its challenges. She reiterated her dedication to representing their voices and aspirations and welcomed continued collaboration.

“As she launches her re-election campaign, Senator LaMantia stands ready to build on her achievements and continue her dedication to the people of Senate District 27,” reads her announcement.

According to her official biography, A Rio Grande Valley native and sixth-generation Texan, LaMantia was elected to the Texas Senate in 2022. As the first female to represent Senate District 27, she serves South Texas and the Coastal Bend, encompassing Bee, San Patricio, Kleberg, Kenedy, Willacy, Cameron, and portions of Nueces and Hidalgo counties.

After earning her bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas at Austin and her law degree from St. Mary’s University School of Law, LaMantia returned to the Rio Grande Valley, where she worked as an associate attorney at Atlas, Hall & Rodriguez, LLP.

She soon went on to work in data analytics for her family business, L&F Distributors, where she currently serves as in-house counsel. Her achievements at L&F include revamping the company’s healthcare plan for over 1,200 employees and promptly resolving supply chain and safety equipment issues that resulted from the COVID-19 pandemic.

As an active member of her community, LaMantia has served on the boards of the Stars Scholarship Fund, the Gladys Porter Zoo, and the Museum of South Texas History. By building opportunities through hard work, giving back, and paying it forward, she seeks to carry on the legacy of her grandfather, Joe LaMantia Jr., who inspired her journey in public service.

LaMantia is a member of the distinguished Senate Committees on Education, Health & Human Services, Nominations, and State Affairs, which headline debate on the legislature’s most contentious topics and impactful issues.

In her first term as a Senator, she used her position to expand opportunities for the Texas workforce, increase access to affordable healthcare, support public school students and teachers, deliver funding for rural areas, and more.

In her free time, LaMantia enjoys spending time with her loving family and her five dogs, Cain, Daisy, Gibbs, Smokey, and Sushi.

LaMantia is unchallenged in the March 5, 2024 Democratic Primary. She will thus face Republican challenger Adam Hinojosa in the November 2024 General Election. Hinojosa is running unchallenged in the Republican Primary.

Early voting commences on February 20, 2024, and continues through March 1, 2024.
