Two traditional Resaca City holiday events are slated for this weekend.

Firstly, the Rotary Club of San Benito is hosting its Third Annual Christmas at the Park event on Sunday, December 10, at 1 p.m. This event is open to the community and features many activities specifically for children and adults young at heart.

Activities include a Magical Moment with Santa Claus, storytelling, speaking with the Grinch and many more hands-on activities for children such as cookie decorating, coloring contests, face painting, and letters to Santa which will be published in the San Benito News.

The highlight of these Christmas activities is the arrival of Santa Claus, who will bring Mrs. Claus to help him make the journey, said Rotary Club organizers.

A new feature has been added to this annual event. It is the re-enactment of the trek to Bethlehem that Joseph and Mary took. The search for shelter (posada) will follow the traditional Mexican Posada with traditional music. The posada will culminate in a live nativity with Joseph, Mary, and Baby Jesus. This production is a combination of the traditional posada and a nativity play.

Area businesses are participating by setting up tables with a variety of activities and useful information and exhibits.

Local vendors will be available to provide an opportunity for last minute Christmas shopping. The festivities also include a performance stage where San Benito school children will be singing, dancing, and providing musical renditions of various Christmas songs.

Several SBCISD Elementary Schools are participating by featuring their choirs, dance groups, folkloric groups, and cheer groups. Other community talent will also be featured on the performance stage. Food trucks/tents with funnel cakes, tacos, sandwiches, hamburgers, and other food will be available.

The event is opened to the public and will be held between 1-5 p.m. at the Rotary Park, located on the corner of Stenger and Doherty Streets in San Benito.
