Alleged thief caught

As previously reported in the NEWS, on November 20, 2023 burglary of vehicle incidents and the illegal usage of credit cards allegedly obtained from those burglaries were reported to the San Benito Police Department (SBPD) for follow up.

Photographs of the suspect were obtained and circulation of these photos was made on several social media pages and news outlets, including the San Benito News, to raise awareness about the subject who was reported to often carry a handgun.

Through the investigation, Detectives of the SBPD Special Investigations Unit (SIU) were able to positively identify Jose Rodriguez Jr., a San Benito resident, as the alleged perpetrator of the crimes committed.
It was also learned that an additional alleged crime of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon occurred days after the initial crimes had been reported.

Further investigation into his whereabouts revealed that he had retreated and was staying in the City of Brownsville.

According to a SBPD press release, on December 1, Investigators with the SBPD, and with assistance from the Cameron County District Attorneys SIU and the Brownsville Police Department SIU, located and arrested Rodriguez in the City of Brownsville.
He was charged with the crimes described below and transported to the Cameron County Carrizales Rucker Detention Center in Olmito after his arraignment.
