Cameron County Sheriff’s Office Deputies made two area arrests in unrelated incidents this past week.
On September 15, 2023, Cameron County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to Espinoza Loop in the San Benito area, in reference to a disturbance. In the initial 911 call, a female, who identified herself as Kassandra Leann Hernandez, 23-years-old, said she was attempting to depart from a residence, but her boyfriend would allegedly not allow her to access her vehicle’s keys.
Cameron County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) Dispatch was then informed, via a separate 911 call by Hernandez’s boyfriend, that Hernandez was allegedly highly intoxicated, and he would not give her the car keys. Moments later, Hernandez called CCSO Dispatch, stating she was able to retrieve her keys, and had fled the location.
Based on the information received, deputies were able to locate Hernandez’s vehicle a few streets away and a traffic stop was initiated. In the initial contact, the deputies observed two children, later determined to be ages four and five, as passengers in the vehicle.
As the deputies interviewed Hernandez, they detected a strong odor of alcohol emitting from her breath; red, bloodshot eyes and slurred speech, according to a CCSOF report.
Upon further investigation, Hernandez was placed under arrest and charged with two counts of Abandonment/Endangerment of a Child and Two Counts of Driving While Intoxicated with a Child Passenger Under 15 Years of Age.
Hernandez was transported and booked into the Cameron County Carrizalez-Rucker Detention Center in Olmito. An investigation is ongoing.
