With their historic regular season in the books, the Lady ’Hounds are making sure everyone knows just how dominant they can be.
Despite being heavy favorites in their first-round matchup, the ladies were still able to exceed expectations with two blowout victories to advance to the second round. With a combined score of 37-2 over the two-game series, San Benito made easy work of Mission High as they pushed their winning streak to a whopping 20 games.
Game 1 was held in Mission, but the ’Hounds didn’t miss a beat, racing out to a quick first-inning lead. By the end of the second inning, San Benito had already built a commanding 7-0 lead and looked poise to cruise to a victory. With All-star pitcher Emily Delgado shutting down the Mission batters, Amira Rodriguez essentially put the game away with a three-run home run to close out the fourth inning that pushed the score to 16-0.
The game was ultimately called early as San Benito held an insurmountable 19-2 lead after five innings.
“We’re just trying to stay focused on one game at a time and making sure everyone is healthy and ready to compete,” said head coach Elias Martinez. “We’re not getting ahead of ourselves or overlooking any opponent at this point in the season.”
