Tony Yzaguirre, Jr., Cameron County Tax Assessor-Collector, issued 5,632 final tax statements for Tax Year 2022 for personal property totaling $5,163,007.01, which have not been paid. Approximately 89% of property taxes that the Cameron County collects for have already been paid.
Taxpayers took advantage of the tax discounts offered in October, November, and December,” said Yzaguirre. “We want everyone to pay their taxes or to take advantage of various payment plan options our office provides, before they accrue additional penalties and interest that started on February l, 2023 in accordance with Texas Property Tax Code Sec. 33.01 (Penalties and Interest).”
Taxes for the year 2022 were due by January 31, 2023 and became delinquent February 1, 2023. On February 1, 2023 all tax accounts which have not been paid in full have accrued a 7% fee for penalties and interest.
All personal property accounts will be assessed 15% to 20% attorney fees for any balance due after April l, 2023. Property owners who have not received their tax statement(s), should contact one of the Tax Assessor-Collector’s Offices immediately.
“Taxpayers can pay their taxes online at www.cameroncountytx.gov/tac or at any of our 10 branch offices countywide,” added Yzaguirre. Drop-off boxes conveniently accessible 24/7 for tax payments paid by check or money orders only may be dropped off at the Brownsville Main Office on East Levee Street between East 8th Street and East 9th Street in Brownville, Port Isabel Branch Office at 505 Highway 100, Los Fresnos Branch Office located at 745 W. Ocean Blvd, Harlingen Branch Office at 3302 Wilson Rd., San Benito Motor Bank located at 199 S. Sam Houston, and our new Harlingen Motor Bank located at 300 E. Van Buren.
