Mad Boar Harley-Davidson, formerly located at 3515 W Expressway 83, has been closed since its last day of operation on Oct. 31, 2022. The motorcycle shop has moved all its employees, gear and attire to its sister business in McAllen, Desperado.

Both businesses were managed by the same company, Southern Spokes Motorsports. Southern Spokes’ Marketing Director, Amanda Marcum, said this move would make it easier for the company to serve the Rio Grande Valley.

“Some of our sales team from Desperado would go over to Mad Boar, and some of the attire and parts team would also go back and forth between dealerships, so essentially we got to a point where we felt like within the physical location of Mad Boar, that we would not be able to have the capacity to help our people in Desperado,” Marcum said.

Desperado’s location in McAllen offers more indoor and outdoor space that also serves large events, plus the location counts as an immense showroom.

“Essentially Mad Boar was a secondary location of Desperado to begin with, so our parent company just thought we should be the only one,” Marcum said.

As for the future of the property, the location in San Benito is up for sale.

EDC Director Ramiro Aleman said in an email that although the building is privately owned, if “the right project came along, the City and/or EDC can certainly review the project to see if there were anything we can do.”
