In mid-November the San Benito EDC announced the appointment of its new Executive Director, 45-year-old Ramiro Aleman. With a background in economic development of 16 years, Aleman appears a perfectly qualified choice to lead San Benito in its economic progress, officials said.
Aleman worked for the Harlingen EDC as Manager of Industrial Development for 11 years and worked for the past five years at the Greater Brownsville Incentives Corporation as a Director of Business and Retention Expansion.
“I recruited businesses to Cameron County, whether individual retailers or large commercial industrial developments as well as commercial developments and recruiting industrial projects, even to back-office operations,” he said. “I’m experienced in all aspects of economic development.”
Originally from La Feria, Aleman now lives in Harlingen, having graduated from La Feria High and then attending TSTC for two years, receiving his Bachelor’s Degree in International Business Management at the University of Texas-San Antonio.
“I always knew I wanted to come back to the Valley and help my people here, thus the International Business degree because of the border,” Aleman said.
Aleman’s vision for San Benito is to first continue the Rent Subsidy and Facade Improvement programs already intact and supplement them by creating a marketing program to promote said programs, as these are something the public continues to be unaware of.
