Police respond to bomb threat

At approximately 10:15 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 15, officers with the San Benito Police Department (SBPD) responded to the San Benito Post Office in reference to a bomb threat.

According to a statement to the media and public released by the City of San Benito, an employee from the post office called police dispatch and advised the SBPD that a male subject walked into the lobby of the post office and told postal employees that they were all in danger.

When the employee asked the male what he meant, the male replied that there was a bomb in the building.
The city’s statement went onto read that police officers arrived on scene and proceeded to evacuate the post office.

A perimeter was established around the area for safety. San Benito Police contacted the Brownsville Police Department, which had an explosive detection canine on duty. The Brownsville police officer and his canine responded to the scene and conducted a search of the area. After the scene was cleared, employees were allowed to return to the building.
