Over the last few years, San Benito High School has seen a steady rise in kids parlaying their athletic prowess into scholarships to continue their sports careers at the next level.

With the new school year right around the corner, one more name was added to the ever growing list of Greyhounds turned college athletes.

Mando Hernandez, the All-star catcher and captain of the Greyhound baseball team, officially signed his letter of intent to play baseball for Southwestern Assemblies of God University in Waxahachie, Texas last Friday.

Hernandez, who led the team with a jaw-dropping .423 batting average and an impeccable .988 fielding percentage, is looking forward to working his way up the ladder at his new school.

“I’ve been a hard worker my entire athletic career and I plan to work even harder as soon as I get on campus,” said Hernandez.

“Nothing is going to be given to me so I’m looking forward to earning everything I can and showing them that San Benito is home to the hardest working athletes in the State.”
