An 18-year-old woman from San Benito was charged with the murder of her newborn infant in Nunn, Colorado, according to a press release from the Weld County District Attorney’s office.

Leiyla Marissa Cepeda was arrested and charged last June with two counts of first-degree murder. Cepeda was 17-years-old at the time of the assault but turned 18 two days after, leading to her being tried as an adult, according to reports.

On June 8, police responded to a call about a deceased female infant in Cepeda’s home. The infant appeared to have stab wounds on her body.

A law enforcement affidavit described the grisly situation of that Wednesday night.

At approximately 3 a.m., police were called to the Cepeda residence and learned of a deceased infant with alleged stab wounds to its torso.

Officers learned that Cepeda had allegedly told responding medical personnel that she felt unwell and had not told her family that she was pregnant.

Furthermore, Cepeda allegedly said she had delivered the non-breathing baby and used a pair of scissors to cut its umbilical cord, then proceeded to head upstairs to take a shower.
