A new trash pickup schedule has been approved by the San Benito City Council. Council members voted on the change after representatives of BFI Waste Services gave a presentation during a May 3 meeting of the administrative body.

Ray Thomas, the company’s operations manager, said they proposed to have trash pickup routes on Mondays and Thursdays for residents north of Expressway 77, the city’s resaca and north of Stenger Street. Everyone else will have their trash pickups on Tuesday and Fridays. The route changes went into effect on May 9.

“The reason for the changes is that we have been getting a lot of calls from people,” Thomas said, adding they would like to make the changes so everybody is happy with it. “We have had great success with two other cities.”

Thomas said they will announce the changes by issuing flyers while Manuel De la Rosa, the city’s manager, said they will blast out the changes on social media.
