San Benito native and Registered Nurse Simon Fonseca, Jr. was recently honored at the University Hospital in San Antonio, where friends and family dedicated a bench in his memory.
The funds were raised by friends and family and dedicated to the University Health Foundation Staff Resiliency Fund.
Fonseca passed away on February 12, 2021, after a battle with COVID-19.
After working as a licensed paramedic, Fonseca then earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio.
Fonseca began and ended his nursing career at University Hospital, working there for 18 years. He began working at the Emergency Department and later moved to the Pavilion ExpressMed Clinic. He was employed by University Hospital in San Antonio for his entire nursing career.
