San Benito City Manager Manuel De La Rosa is currently a finalist for Weslaco City Manager.
According to a recent news report, De La Rosa was one of five candidates (narrowed down from 13 applicants) for the Weslaco City Manager position for whom interviews began on March 8 with the Weslaco City Commission.
On March 15, Weslaco City Commissioners named De La Rosa and former Harlingen City Manager Dan Serna as the two finalists.
However, before their next city commission meeting Wednesday of last week, Serna withdrew his candidacy.
According to San Benito Public Relations Officer David Favila, De La Rosa has no comment at the time regarding his candidacy in Weslaco. However, De La Rosa did inform the Mayor and Commissioners that he was interviewed.
According to Favila, were De La Rosa to receive the Weslaco position, he would not need to wait for the expiration of his contract. “Both he and the City of San Benito can reach a mutually agreed upon separation date,” Favila wrote in an email.
