Elections picThe March 14 deadline to file for the upcoming May elections has come and gone, and election season is now in full swing.

While those interested in entering any of the upcoming races are now a day late and a dollar short, those who have already filed for candidacy still have until March 23, 53 days before the election, to decide whether they choose to remain on the election ballot.

But in the meantime, the City of Rio Hondo elections are as follows: Mayor Alonzo Garza will run for re-election against Pl. 4 City Commissioner Joseph Lopez, Mike Uresti is the sole candidate for the Pl. 4 seat on the city commission, and the race for Pl. 2 City Commissioner will see a three-way match-up between Pl. 2 incumbent Gloria Barrientos and former city commissioners Enrique Tello and Anita Lozano.
