Two new candidates have filed for candidacy in the San Benito CISD elections.
Jesus “Chuy” Aguilera, Jr. filed for the Pl. 6 seat on the school board, which is currently held by incumbent Oscar Medrano who has already filed for re-election. Also filing was Jesus’ daughter, June Aguilera. She is challenging Pl. 4 Trustee Joe G. Gonzalez. Pl. 5 Trustee Hector Leal and Pl. 7 Trustee Manuel “Meme” Gonzales, Jr. both remain unopposed as of presstime.
The City of San Benito elections have not seemed to pick up any speed as of yet. Mayor Jack Garcia is being challenged by former Mayor Joe H. Hernandez; the only two candidates who have filed for the mayoral race. Pl. 2 Commissioner Rene Villafranco is being challenged by Gavino Sotelo, and Pl. 1 Commissioner Tony Gonzales is still running unchallenged as of presstime.
