In a story first reported by the San Benito News Thursday morning on sbnewspaper.com, former mayor and current mayoral candidate Joe H. Hernandez announced his decision to dismiss pending lawsuits against the City of San Benito.

Hernandez released a statement in which he said that he would take the “high road for the hard-working families of San Benito, Texas and let them decide who their next mayor will be.”

“I am announcing that I will be dismissing the lawsuits that I filed after I was illegally removed from office by my opponent,” said Hernandez in the press release. “I would rather beat my opponent in the polls than at the courthouse.”

According to Hernandez, he believes that by dismissing the lawsuit, it will diminish the alleged “gossip” he feels has come as a result of his opponent in the May 14 mayoral election, current Mayor Jack Garcia, whom he referred to in the release as someone playing “partisan politics” as well as accusing Garcia of “power grabbing” being “the hallmark” of Garcia’s “office-holding tactics.”
