God has designed supernatural weapons for Christian believers to use in a very real supernatural warfare. This is a very compelling thought and an equally compelling reality.

We saw last week in II Corinthians 10: 3-6 the description of this weaponry with its spiritual purpose: “For though we walk after the flesh, we do not war after the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but they are mighty through God.” Let’s take a closer look at this weaponry and its spiritual components and structure.

The Bible calls this weaponry “The Whole Armor of God.” We are going to see that the Spirit of God handcrafted this weaponry as specifically as he created the heavens and the earth. Everything God creates has a divine purpose. We may not choose to accept this reality but it most definitely is true. Let’s look at how the book of Ephesians describes this armor.

“Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.” (Ephesians 6:10-17 NKJV)

We see in Verse 10 that the first aspect mentioned is our need to be strong in The Lord. We are to be strong in Him and His might not our own concept of self and self-capacity. Why? Our carnal nature cannot effectively wage war in the spiritual realm. We need the power of God in our lives to effectively stand against the hand of the devil. Yes, I said the devil. He is very real. He has very real power. He is a very real enemy. “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly,” (John 10:10 NKJV). “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour,” (I Peter 5:8 NKJV). These are but a few of the devil’s characteristics. We can see that he is filled with only malicious intent towards us as God creation and God’s handiwork.

“Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.” The book of Ephesians is clearly telling us we will need to have this armor if we are going to be able to not only withstand in the evil day, but to also continue to stand as the battle rages. It describes a moment in time that it will take all that we are to make this stand.

“Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.” We see who our enemy is. We see who is directing the attack against our lives. The bible does not shy away from this truth and this reality. Why in many churches are we no longer addressing this spiritual reality? There is a constant flux of spiritual combat. If we are going to have and maintain true spiritual freedom this is a spiritual reality we can no longer ignore or deny. Jesus did not ignore it or deny it and neither did the early church. We cannot do so either any longer. Let us also make our stand in “The Whole Armor of God” as required so that we too may be spiritually free.
