Volleyball practice to begin

Starting Monday, there will be plenty of sets, spikes and serves as the San Benito Lady ’Hounds volleyball team takes the court to prepare for the 2014 season.

The girls will once again be under the direction of coach Ruby Medina as they start practice on Aug. 4. The team will be practicing at Veterans Memorial Academy and Miller Jordan Middle School.

Seniors will report to VMA for a team meeting at 10:30 a.m. and practices will run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and then from 4 to 6 p.m.

Juniors and sophomores will also report to VMA. Their team meeting will run from 7:30 to 8 a.m. and practice will follow from 8 to 11 a.m. and then from 1 to 3 p.m.

Freshmen will practice at Miller Jordan and will have a team meeting at 8 a.m. Practice will run from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. and then from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.

Of note, all girls interested in playing volleyball must have completed a physical and must be dressed in workout attire.

In addition, the volleyball coaches will be hosting a clinic for future Lady ’Hounds starting next week.

The clinic will run from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 4 to Friday, Aug. 8 and will be for incoming seventh and eighth graders attending Berta Cabaza, Miller Jordan or Riverside Middle Schools.

Incoming seventh graders will report to Miller Jordan while incoming eighth graders will arrive at Veterans Memorial Academy. Girls must attend this clinic to help in preparations for the upcoming season. Passing, setting, attacking, blocking and serving will be covered. Girls must wear proper workout attire and must obtain a waiver form to be signed by their parents.
