Only one employee was terminated Tuesday, March 8 at the San Benito CISD regular school board meeting while employees who had not resigned were awarded contracts.
Superintendant of Schools Antonio G. Limón made the recommendation to terminate the probationary contract of said employee, which was motioned by trustees Oscar De La Fuente and seconded by Joe G. Gonzalez.
The termination of the employee’s contract came after the superintendent commented in “District leaders deny cutting educators”, an article published in the March 6 weekend edition of the San Benito News that tackled the issue of potential employee layoffs in response to the billion dollar state deficit. But Limón said such decisions would be made only if a teacher did not receive a recommendation from the campus in which they’re employed to continue employment, which he said was the case in Tuesday’s sole contract termination.
Limón said that all persons who had not resigned were awarded contracts and that the employee whose contract was terminated could continue employment with the district until the contract expires.
