‘HELP WANTED’: Board opts not to split head coach, AD posts; consultant to launch search

NEWS Staff Report

Hound logoNow that the particulars are out of the way, let the search for the new Greyhound athletic leader really begin.

The San Benito CISD Board of Trustees decided late Wednesday to not split the vacant athletic director/head football coach job into two, and also got the process rolling to find a replacement.

The board considered splitting the post, vacated Jan. 14 after a resignation agreement with Spencer Gantt. Currently, San Benito and Los Fresnos are the only 5A districts in the Rio Grande Valley with one high school who also still employ the head football coach as the district’s athletic director. The remaining Valley 5A districts feature multiple high schools and a centralized athletic department to oversee each of the schools.
