Valentine’s Day is set aside for taking the time to embrace those you love. The San Benito Lady Greyhound basketball fans did just that as their memorable season continued with a 45-44 Bi-District Championship win Monday night over Edinburg North, this to add to their trophy mantle after winning the District 32-5A championship for the first time in school history.

Trailing double digits in the final quarter of play the team dug deep and came from behind, then held its breath as a final shot missed it’s mark by one of the best players in the area.

The team arrived early and was going through the normal preparations before this big game. Normal that is as it gets when you’re in uncharted waters of being a favorite to win a playoff game. Yet the Lady ’Hounds managed to focus on the task at hand. By 5:50 p.m. the first fans started making their way into the gym and at 6 p.m. sharp the Lady Cougars arrived. Within 30 minutes the gym was nearly packed. By game time at 7 p.m. there was no question that the playoffs had arrived.
