Dorothy Alice (Regester) Messer joined the church triumphant on Thursday, September 25, 2013 at 4:15 pm.

She was with her daughter Marcia (Messer) Shumate-Schultz and her son-in-law, Michael W. Schultz, in Biloxi, MS.

Dorothy was born in San Benito, Texas on October 5, 1919. She was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene, graduated from San Benito High School and married Donald W. Messer on December 28, 1941.

Her parents, Hazel (Irick) and Robert Huston Regester, raised their three sons, George, Robert and Jerry, who preceded Dorothy in death, and her younger sister, Janice (Regester) Willians, who still lives in the area. Dorothy was a talented artist who painted many Texas landscapes, with a special fondness for bluebonnets in the Texas hill country. Dorothy enjoyed being a wife and mother, traveling with Don and visiting in the homes of friends and family, especially with their three children, Mark Robert and Cooky, Marcia Jan and Michael, and Donna Jeane and Chris Singleton.

Dorothy has seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Dorothy and Don sold their business in downtown San Benito, Don’s Photo Center, and moved to Houston where Don worked for Shell Oil Company and Dorothy worked for the Harvey Travel Agency. When Don’s health dictated a move, they went to Nacogdoches, Texas, where they lived for several years and then moved to Jacksonville, Florida, to be near Mark. They moved one last time with Michael and Marcia to Biloxi. Our mother leaves us with a heritage of Christian faith and love of family. May she rest in peace and may light perpetual shine upon her.
