Former Harlingen City Manager Gavino D. Sotelo, 67, has announced his candidacy for the San Benito City Commission, Place 2 seat in the May elections.
“I’m running for office because I think we need to get back to basics in the city,” said Sotelo, whose resume includes working as a first assistant city manager in cities such as Dallas, Lubbock, Kingsville, Odessa, and more. “There’s a lot of things that I think we need to address. The city commission has taken a step in addressing streets, but we’re having a major problem with drainage.”
Sotelo, who served with the U.S. Army in Korea and Ethiopia from 1963 to 1969, has lived in San Benito for five years and is currently the general manager of the Laguna Madre Water District in Port Isabel.
