BAYTOWN/SAN BENITO, TX—Natividad “Natty” Gonzalez Moreno, 80, was called home on Sunday, March 3, 2013 after a brief illness.
Natividad was born on December 24, 1932 to Rufino Gonzalez and Gloria Navarro Gonzalez in San Benito, TX.
Natty married her love, Antonio Moreno, on December 31, 1957, while he was on furlough with the U.S. Army. After he was discharged, they traveled through the State of Texas for Antonio’s trade as a carpenter. After the birth of their fourth child, they relocated back to San Benito, TX where they raised their family.
She had a passion for sewing-especially for her grandchildren. She made blankets, stuffed animals, and other mementos for them to cherish through the years. She loved music-her love of music came from her father, who taught her at a young age how to play the accordion. She also took great pride in her garden-she was constantly tending to her beautiful flowering plants and greenery. But her family was her greatest accomplishment. She stayed home to raise her four children and as her children grew up, married, and had families of their own, she spent a lot of time with her grandchildren. She was always making crafts with them, teaching cooking essentials like making tortillas, or telling stories of her childhood adventures. Her great-grandchildren were also her pride and joy. They affectionately called her “Grandma Vivi”.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Antonio Moreno; great-grandson, Michael Garcia, Jr.; her mother, Gloria N. Gonzalez; her father, Rufino Gonzalez; step-mother, Isabel Gonzalez; her siblings, Margarito Gonzalez, Delfina Gonzalez Cantu, Paulino Gonzalez, Mercedes Gonzalez Moreno, Celia Gonzalez Garcia, Hortencia Gonzalez Garza, and Olivia Gonzalez Garza.
She is survived by her four children, Norma (Juan) Aguilar, Felix (Debbie) Moreno, Melinda (Joel Jr.) Garcia, and Rosie (Leo) Garcia; nine grandchildren, Selena Aguilar, Randy Garcia (Stephanie), Melanie Garcia-Patel (Ashish), Michael Garcia (Nicole), Kevin Moreno, Natalie Aguilar, Kristen Garcia-Armstrong (Matthew), Bryan Moreno, and Leo Garcia, Jr.; four great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Anthony, Kailey, and Chloe Garcia; and soon to be fifth great-grandchild, Sophia Patel; and her brothers, Reymundo (Adela) and Reynaldo (Ofelia) Gonzalez. She is also survived by her in-laws, Clemente Moreno, Guadalupe Cantu, Rosa (Frank) Marroquin, Petra Moreno, and Juan (Guadalupe) Moreno.
Visitation was held on Tuesday, March 5, 2013 from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., with the holy rosary prayed at 7:00 p.m. at San Benito Funeral Home.
A chapel service will be held on Wednesday, March 6, 2013 at 12:00 noon at San Benito Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Randy, Michael, and Leo Garcia, Jr.; and Ashish Patel; and her son-in-laws, Juan Aguilar, Joe, Jr. and Leo Garcia.
Honorary pallbearers will be her son, Felix Moreno and great-grandson, Anthony Garcia.
