The San Benito Public Library has long served as a hub for learning, culture, and community engagement — and this year, its leader is being honored for an impact that extends well beyond its walls. Library Director Augustin Carrera has been named the 2025 San Benito’s Person of the Year, recognizing his commitment to education, access, and public service.
Carrera, who has held leadership and education roles in libraries throughout his career, has helped transform the library into a modern center for families, students, seniors, and lifelong learners.
Under his leadership, the library has expanded its programs in digital literacy, early childhood education, workforce development, and cultural enrichment.
From free technology classes and community partnerships to children’s story time and health-education outreach, the San Benito Public Library has become one of the city’s most trusted public resources.
Carrera’s efforts go beyond the library. He collaborates with local schools, nonprofits, city agencies, and community groups to ensure families have access to resources and support that benefit the whole community.
While he credits his staff and community collaborators for the library’s success, Carrera expressed deep appreciation for the honor.
“Being named Person of the Year is both a tremendous honor and a humbling experience. Personally, it reminds me how powerful community partnerships, volunteerism, and small acts of service can be,” he said.
With a vision centered on access, innovation, and inclusivity, Carrera continues to champion literacy, connection, and lifelong learning for residents of all ages.
His recognition as Person of the Year shines a spotlight not only on his leadership, but also on the growing role of the public library as a vital and inspiring centerpiece of the San Benito community.
The San Benito Public Library is located at 101 W. Rose, San Benito.
