RIO HONDO, TX— Youths entering grades third through ninth are invited to attend a Bobcat football camp on Wednesday, July 30.

Last year’s camp proved to be a success, so the Rio Hondo ISD Athletics Department, under the direction of Athletics Director Rocky James, is hosting it again.

This is our second year hosting this camp for our kids in Rio Hondo,” James said. “A few years ago, we had the Robert Garza Football Camp, and we wanted to bring it back to our community so our boys and girls could compete and develop a strong sense of belonging.

The two-hour camp for this tight-knit community will take place from 6-8 p.m. at Bobcat Stadium and will be hosted by James, with invaluable instruction provided by many others.

“Last year we had 70 campers at our free camp with our varsity team, alumni, and ex-college players helping,” James said.

Among the other adult camp instructors will be the staff of the Rio Hondo Bobcats varsity football team and other coaching staff members.

T-shirts will be available on a first-come, first-served basis for participants wearing sizes from youth small to adult double extra-large.

James said 360 Athletics helped sponsor this event last year.

Plans are to have four to five competition stations for the young campers, dividing them into two separate groups: grades 3–6 and 7–9, respectively.

An application is needed and must include the parent/guardian’s name, email address, and contact phone number. Call the RHISD Athletics Department office at (956) 748-1220 for information about the football camp.

James requests that attendees bring cleats or flats, which is a requirement.

A personal water bottle is also recommended.

“Another requirement we ask of our campers: bring tons of energy!” James exclaimed.
